Fire & Ice

What I like most about the poem "Fire & Ice" is how it talks about how the world will end. It's a little bit depressing through the 30 seconds the poem lasts but it speaks to me. It makes me wonder, will the world end in fire? Or in ice? This poem is good and worth reading if you have 5 seconds to read a poem in your free time.

Trees

TreesBy Joyce Kilmer

(For Mrs. Henry Mills Alden)
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast; - This is my second favorite line because i like how joyce made it
seem as if the trees trunk was a mouth up against the earths
A tree that looks at God all day,                        breast.
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain; - This line just makes me chuckle when i read it along with another one
Who intimately lives with rain.            earlier in the poem.

Poems are made by fools like me, - This is my absolute favorite line. the early parts of this poem could be
But only God can make a tree.            written by a kid but the part, just makes the poem great

I like this poem because i have had the opportunity of using it in the past. But what i really like the poem, and the reason i picked it the first time i used it is because it talks about one of the earths most important qualities... "Trees". When i read this poem i feel all warm and excited on the inside. Without trees we may not be able to breath, and because i love life, i love trees. I also enjoy using it because when i recite it, it is very easy to remember.

Antigone

From Antigone s point of view I see where she gets off on wanting to break the law. Even though the king made the law where she cant burry the one brother that betrayed his country, he shouldn’t be mad enough to where he kills her over it. Even if Polynecis went against his country, it was for a cause. I would probably do the same if my brother tried to seize all the power for himself.  My opinion on what Antigone is doing to burry her brother, I am all for it.
But I can also see where Creon is coming from with this law and his anger about wanting no one to burry the body of Polynecis. He can’t come off soft to his kingdom and let a traitor be buried, so as his punishment Creon is not allowing his soul to go to heaven. This really in a complicated pickle, considering after Antigone “buries” Polynecis, Creon wants to kill her, but he can’t because his son Haemon is going to marry Antigone.
What Inseme is doing though “I” think is really stupid. When her sister Antigone is taking the full fall, why should she want to go down with her? I understand that from her point of view she may feel diffidently about Antigone than I do but still, if I had a get out of jail free card I would take it, Not get executed

Bad things happen to good peeps

In our world today, bad things happen to good people everyday. For example: in Somalia those ships captain and crew, that are taken hostage and in some cases killed. These people didn't do anything to deserve getting hurt. They are just ordinary people trying to make an honest living. Good people can also have bad things happen to them not only by people but also by disease. People can die from cancers, birth defects, or other disabilities. Some people might wonder why could something bad happen to a good person. Like the situation in Macbeth where Macbeth kills Macduffs family because Macduff is trying to impeach Macbeth and get Malcolm in his right full place as king. Macbeth is trying to intimidate Macduff by killing innocent people and two of those people being his kid and wife. A situation that could relate to this is if a modern day country like Russia wants an American to spy on America. But if he wanted him and his family to live he would have to supply helpful information. I don't think this is the right or even a good thing to do, but if you are in the place of a leader trying to stay alive, all that is going through your mind is to do what ever is necessary.

Then and now

G:
Then (Act III, Scene IV)
Lady Macbeth says "Why do you make such faces? when all's done, You look but on a stool.
Lady M, is saying why are you acting weird, there is nothing here. (Macbeth sees Banquos Ghost)

Now Act V
Lady M says " i tell you yet again, Banquo's buried; he cannot come out on's grave.
I think lady M in this scene is re-living the moment in Act III when she was at dinner with Macbeth and he went crazy.

H:
Then (Act II, Scene II)
I hear a knocking at the south entry. Retire we to our chamber.
Lady Macbeth heres a knocking and feels like someone might have found the body.

Now Act V
To bed, to bed. There's a knocking at the gate.
When Lady M is saying this in her sleep she now feels scared she will get caught.

The Blood Trail

1. Give me your hand;
Conduct me to mine host: we love him highly,
And shall continue our graces towards him.
By your leave, hostess.
Act I, Scene 4 - Duncan

2. Summary: Duncan says to Lady Macbeth: Come with me hostess, we enjoy his presence and we will keep taking care of him. Thanks for the tour.

3. Comment: The word "hand" in this text most nearly means come and follow me.

MacBeth's Word Web

The 2 characters i will compare will be MacBeth and lady macbeth. While on my chart the three words i will use are  murder, slaughter, and family. Even though lady MacBeth is a woman she has more balls the MacBeth and wants to kill the king by murdering him. I used family because she is married to MacBeth.

An ambitious man who fights for what he believes in. slaughters anything that gets in his way, and has the blood of his enemies heard drip from his saber. Leaving nothing but death in his path on the battlefield. You know he is a fighter when Duncan says "what bloody man is that" to his sergeant.

Subtext and Bananas

Option 2.) Craig: Hey Hulga you know those tickets you got for that concert?
                        Hulga: Yeah? What about them?
Craig: Well nothing it’s just that me and my girlfriend love that band and we cant find tickets anywhere.
Hulga: Bitch you are not getting my tickets!
Craig: I didn’t ask for you tickets slut.
Hulga: Ohh but the way you put it made me assume that you wanted mine… sorry.
Craig: its ok but it really would be cool if you gave me your tickets though.
                        Hulga: Were not friends anymore…

Macbeth and the Ugly Witches

In my mind the witches look like 3 ugly old ladies with bad skin, raspy voices, hunched backs, and bad hair. They all of course have evil laughs to. The next character I can picture is Macbeth. I see him as a noble and fearless night built to be a leader. I think that he can and will achieve greatness later in the play.

When I think of a gross ugly witch (on the right) this is what I think of. When i usually see the witches in my head they are a lot uglier, but on google only so much comes up when you search "3 ugly witches". I know they are a little bit more human looking than most would think a witch would look like but this is all I have got. They are still very ugly though.

When i think of Macbeth the brave warrior that became the king this is what is see. Master chief (on the left) and Macbeth are both heros and fight for one cause. Although there are small differences they are nearly the same. They both fight to save humanity. But in Macbeth s' case he's just fighting to save a kingdom.

Ambition and lettuce

Ambition is one of the things that pushes us and helps us through life. Without ambition you could not accomplish anything of importance. Ambition to me pertains primarily on the sport of lacrosse. With out ambition I would not have any desire to win or become better. But I pushed my self to go to every practice, game, and work out almost every night and it has helped me step my game up. If some one ever predicted my fortune, for example if someone told me I would become an astronaut when I turn 30 and I did I would be amazed but would just think they got lucky on the guess. Using ambition you can achieve your goals and go further in life completing achievements you never thought could be possible to do, say if your fat you could lose weight, or if you are stupid you can study harder, or even if your weak you can work out a lot and bulk up.

32 second Macbeth play

Macbeth has never seen a day so foul or so fair at the same time to where it was fair and foul. he then heres a drum which signifies that macbeth is coming to scathe the king. Macbeth then says "So foul and fair a day i have not seen, refers to Macbeth soon to kill the king and take his place. All hail Macbeth that shall be king hereafter is what one of Macbeth s' men say after they get to the kings palace and are preparing to kill him. when he say if chance will have me king then chance will crown me he means that chance is on his side and wants him to be king. Unsex me here refers to a girl wanting to get with Macbeth. Macbeth says "is this a dagger i see before me and then kills the king and takes his place. The women Macbeth was with says we must clean this mess with water. When a man says "Fly good Fleance fly" it refers to someones son trying to get away, not really sure who's son but i would like to find out. after that macbeth is then killed and it is sad.

Two observations:

I saw in the script "Fly good Fleance, fly" but i didnt know who was saying the line.

And i also never found out who said "unsex me." Or what it ment.

Questions: who said fly good fleance fly? and who said unsex me and what did it mean?

“The boy reached through to the Soul of the World, and saw that it was part of the Soul of God was his own soul. And the he, a boy, could perform miracles.” Pg. 146

This picture makes me think of the universe and its soul dancing in space. What seem to be a man and a woman kissing lead me to think of it as Santiago and Fatima when they are reunited.

The theme connects to the soul of the universe theme.

What reminds me of the alchemist

I picked this photo because it reminds me of Santiago’s journey to the pyramids. He feels that he is so close and relieved to be there but then finds out the treasure is not there. And to top the treasure not being there he ends up getting robbed and beat up by a gang of thugs. In this picture you can see the pyramids, which represent the pyramids that Santiago is looking for in the book when searching for his treasure. And the man with the camel represents “Santiago”, on his way to find his treasure.

Why we study literature

Why do we study literature? Before today I didn’t really have and idea why literature was study or what the point was for studying it. But I thought of and found a few reasons that made me understand why. We could benefit from the insight of other, open our minds to ambiguities of meaning, explore other cultures and beliefs, appreciate why individuals are the way they are, expand our grasp of the machination of history, work our brains, and help us see our selves as other do. I’m still not a fan of literature but at least now I know what we study it for.

what i hope the year will be like

I hope that the English class I currently reside in will be a nice, respectful class. As most kids would say in any English class "there is nothing new I would care to learn in English class." there is nothing I really care to learn either but I am up to learn new things in school. I am looking forward to make a bond with the kids I have known since they came to this school and also the newer kids that have arrived to this school this week. To strengthen our classes bond we could do class activities as a group. We could all speak nicely to each other to become closer friends and have a hug day. If we wanted to increase the trust of our classmates we could play trust fall, or make a trust circle. So far I like almost everyone in my class and the teacher is great to. If I want to help the class run smoothly I could be a good student and encourage every one of my friends to be good to. I hope we don't have a rowdy class this year because when we do I have a lot of trouble paying attention. I do enjoy laughing and having a good time in school, but not if its distracting me from my work and lowering my grades. This year I am challenging myself to keep my grades up and make honor roll. Those are my thoughts and hopes about how I hope the class will act and be like this year in my english class.
